Canada has announced new travel rules for those travelling to the country. It had announced a few travel restrictions in March 2020. But the Canadian Government has been extending the lift-off of the rules every month. The country is taking a gradual approach towards easing travel restrictions. Even though the restrictions are not fully lifted, but those allowed to travel in the country include Canadian citizens, permanent residents, new immigrants, temporary foreign workers, international students, and the family members of Canadians.
Fully vaccinated Tourists from the US and the rest of the world will be allowed to enter the country from Aug 9th and Sept 7th respectively. Also, flights from India to Canada which have been banned since April have been extended for another month. It is now the fourth time that this ban is being extended. Not only direct travel, but the country has also raised concerns related to the third country pre-departure Covid tests for those travelling to Canada from India via an indirect route.
But to look on the bright side, people now do know the Canadian Government’s intentions on allowing tourists in the country.
The Prime Minister’s office has passed a remark that their goal is to allow fully vaccinated US citizens and permanent residents to enter Canada by 9th August. The country is all set to welcome fully vaccinated tourists from the rest of the world by 7th September. These rules will come into play only when Canada is able to maintain a high rate of vaccination and a low rate of Covid cases in the country.
Even though Canada was off to a slow start for Covid vaccinations, it has now emerged as a global leader in vaccinations. A data survey from the Canadian Government shows that almost 80 per cent of Canada’s 12-years and old population have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and over 40 per cent of the people are fully vaccinated. The data recorded on the 15th of July shows that the country reported 400 new cases of COVID-19 the prior day.
Their highest COVID case rate was in April 2021 when the daily cases reached 9000 and more. But with a strong supply of the vaccine and other restrictions, their rate has now lowered in provinces across the country which has also allowed them to relax their social distancing guidelines.
Last month, the Canadian government announced that Conformation of Permanent Residence (COPR) Holders was excused, effective immediately, from the travel restrictions. Earlier this month, they also came up with a new policy wherein the fully vaccinated travellers were spared from needing to quarantine.
While waiting for further updates on travel to Canada, make sure that you get fully vaccinated as soon as possible.
