The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program or the OINP offers various streams for immigration. The In-Demand Skills Stream is one such stream that comes under the OINP. This stream is designed in such a way that the foreigners can get into specific in-demand jobs like those in agriculture, construction, trucking, personal support work and live and earn in Canada for as long as they like. You can apply to this stream if you are a foreign worker in and outside of Canada.

This specific immigration program is now available for the province’s new Expression of Interest (EOI) system under the Employment Job Offer Opportunity. This newly introduced stream in in conjunction with the Foreign Worker and International Student streams in the EOI system. It was planned to be launched earlier this year, in March, under the new application intake system.

About the Stream-

The newly introduced In-Demand Skills stream will focus more on the provincial demand rather than occupational skill demand. In this stream, the foreign workers with eligible job offers will now be able to apply for a PNP with nine months of collective work experience in the province in a span of past three years. Although, seasonal work experience will be discarded to meet the requirement, but a candidate can be eligible if he/she has had part-time work experience that meets the stipulated work hours.

To break this down, a candidate must have completed either 1200 hours of paid employment in one job over a course of 18 months or he/she must have worked at least 30 hours per week over a period of nine months, amounting to a total of 1200 paid work hours.

The other eligibility requirements for this stream include-

Education-

He/she should have completed education that is equivalent to the Canadian High School, Diploma or higher.

Settlement Funds-

The candidate is required to meet the settlement funds requirement that is determined by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The candidates can show this through their own finances, or by showing a valid job offer with annual income that meets their needs.

Once you get the invitation, you can then apply for nomination after 14 days. After the approval on the application, the candidate will be notified whether or not they have been selected for provincial nomination.

After the candidate receives the provincial nomination, he/she is required to submit the federal application for Canadian Permanent Residence.
